I have spent years in marketing research and it is not surprising that friends who are talking Masters come to me for help writing their papers...
One friend was ranting about the importance of research terms and why they have to be phrased in some ridiculous and annoying way. The talk got messed up that we end up choking ourselves in laughter.
Below is a translation of research terms...that my friend and I was talking about.
If you are planning of getting a Masters, you want to familiarize yourself with the following research terms, and their translations in plain English (in italics).
It is believed that...
I think.
It is generally believed that...
A couple of other people think so too.
It is clear that much additional work will be required before a complete understanding of the phenomenon occurs...
I don't understand it.
It has long been known...
I didn't look up the original reference.
A definite trend is evident...
These data are all practically meaningless.
Of great theoretical and practical importance...
Interesting to me.
While it has not been possible to provide definite answers to these questions...
An unsuccessful experiment, but I still hope to get it published.
Three of the samples were chosen for detailed study...
The results of the others didn't make any sense.
Typical results are shown...
The best results are shown.
These results will be shown in a subsequent report...
I might get around to this sometime if I'm pushed.
A careful analysis of obtainable data...
Three pages of notes were obliterated when I knocked over a glass of beer.
It is hoped that this study will stimulate further investigation in this field...
This is a lousy paper, but so are all the others on this miserable topic.
Correct within an order of magnitude...
Wrong.
Note: Apparently this was originally published in a scientific journal article in the '50s!!!

Research Terms Simplified
TMI Tuesday #120
1. Would you stay in a relationship with a physically unfaithful partner?
Yes, especially depending on the circumstance...like my physical absence or anything of sort.
2. Would you stay in a relationship with an emotionally unfaithful partner?
No. This I cannot allow...this is granting of course if my relationship with the person is legitimate...LOL else, this should be out of question.
3. On a scale of 1-10, how important is the recognition of birthdays to you (your's, a friend's, a partner's)?
10, I'm a very thoughtful person...and this means a lot to me!
4. When you have a "toe-curling" orgasm, do your does curl up, or down?
Hahaha....I always curl my toes down...if I'm being tickled...or anything that makes it react...but then sometimes...I alternate between curling my toes down and wrenching my body up...or left and right...idk anymore...maybe I can let somebody answer this for me...LOL
5. Every one has a pet peeve, tell me one of yours.
Poor table manners...
Bonus (as in optional):
Name someone famous who you have no sexual interest in but would have sex with just to brag about it?
If he's famous and it's something I can brag about then for sure he's something I have interest with.... ;)

Monday Fever...
I just did a post for Music Monday, and remember I still have Fun Monday and Manic Monday...and there's no rule that says you can only have one, right?
For FUN MONDAY, we have to take photos of our bedside tables...
I'm a bit late so I'm cheating a bit...these are not so recent photos...
This is my bed...
And this is what's stack underneath the bedside table...
Now for Manic Monday, it is anything that has to do with the word WISH.
I wish everyone celebrating their birthday today a Happy...Happy Birthday!
You may blow your candles here...
The Gift
My Music Monday is for Yummy.
I'm so thankful for everything...for all the support...the understanding...for the love.
And with what you have been prodding me...
Here is my reply...
Don't give up on me
I'll meet you when my chores are through
I don't know how long I'll be
But I'm not gonna let you down
Darling wait and see
And between now and then
Til I see you again
I'll be loving you
Love, Me."

Pre - Valentine Escapade
This trip was revealed to me last minute...and Yummy just told me he is treating me to shopping to HongKong! Who am I to refuse? Besides, to refuse an offer in an insult, right? ;)
So, After work, we headed straight to the airport...and then, there I was in HK!
This is Hong Kong Airport!
I did not expect him to get a very nice accommodation for us since we won't be staying really long...yet, he got us a superb room! I was in an AWE!
Yup, we stayed at the Four Seasons Hotel!
Hmmm...I'm thinking, maybe this was a pre-Valentine escapade, and yes it is! And it was meant to be a surprise...
Anyway...all in all, I enjoyed the trip...exhausting...yet I had fun. I did not do much shopping though...I love our room so much that I wanted to stay there the whole time!
Here are some pictures...
This is HK by night...
Every night they have this music and light show...
These are the shopping malls we went to...
And these are photos of our room...
Yup, he got us a peak view room!
Isn't superb?!
This is at the lobby spa...
I wanted to post these photos real time while I was there but I was having problem with our VPN...and I didn't want us to spend most of our time on the net...
Thanks for the wonderful treat Yum!

Corporate Zodiac
I'm still on high...and I'm just so happy! WOOT
Everything seems to be going so well...for whatever reason...not that I'm complaining! ;)
Chinese New Year is fast approaching...so in its spirit...today we're going to talk about zodiacs!
Astrology tells us about you and your future simply by your birthday.
The Chinese Zodiac uses the year of your birth.
Demographics tell us what you like, dislike, whom you vote for, what you buy and what you watch on television.
Well, the Corporate Zodiac goes a step further: simply by your job title, people will have you all figured out...
MARKETING:
You are ambitious yet stupid. You chose a marketing degree to avoid having to study in college, concentrating instead on drinking and socializing - which is pretty much what your job responsibilities are now. Least compatible with Sales.
SALES:
Laziest of all signs, often referred to as "marketing without a degree", you are also self-centered and paranoid. Unless someone calls you and begs you to take their money, you like to avoid contact with "customers" so you can "concentrate on the big picture". You seek admiration for your golf game throughout your life.
TECHNOLOGY:
Unable to control anything in your personal life, you are instead content to completely control everything that happens at your workplace. Often even YOU don't understand what you are saying, but who the hell can tell?! It is written that the Geeks shall inherit the Earth.
ENGINEERING:
One of only two signs that actually studied in school, it is said that ninety percent of all Personal Ads are placed by engineers. You can be happy with yourself: your office is typically full of all the latest "ergodynamic" gadgets. However, we all know what is really causing your "carpal tunnel"...
ACCOUNTING:
The only other sign that studied in school, you are mostly immune from office politics. You are the most feared person in the organization; combined with your extreme organizational traits, the majority of rumors concerning you say that you are completely insane.
HUMAN RESOURCES:
Ironically, given your access to confidential information, you tend to be the biggest gossip within the organization. Possibly the only other person that does less work than marketing, you are unable to return any calls today because you have to get a haircut, have lunch, AND mail a letter!
MIDDLE MANAGEMENT/ DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT/ "TEAM LEADS":
Catty, cut-throat, yet completely spineless, you are destined to remain at your current job for the rest of your life. Unable to make a single decision you tend to measure your worth by the number of meetings you can schedule for yourself. Best suited to marry other "Middle Managers", as everyone in your social circle is a "Middle Manager".
SENIOR MANAGEMENT:
Catty, cut-throat, yet completely spineless, you are destined to remain at your current job for the rest of your life. Unable to make a single decision you tend to measure your worth by the number of meetings you can schedule for yourself. Best suited to marry other "Senior Managers", as everyone in your social circle is a "Senior Manager".
CUSTOMER SERVICE:
Bright, cheery, positive, you are a fifty-cent cab ride from jumping off a cliff. As a child, very few of you asked your parents for a little cubicle for your room and a headset so you could pretend to play "Customer Service". Continually passed over for promotions, your best bet is to sleep with your manager.
CONSULTANT: 666 (Satan's spawn).
High...
delta-9-tetrahydro-cannabinol (THC)
feeling of happiness and euphoria
inherent introspective dreaminess
increased appreciation of music
improved conception of colour
perception of time distortion
highly stimulated appetite

Still Loving Me?!
This is not flaterring anymore...
It's 5:18 AM and I got another song for me...
This time...I know from whom.
Then, my phone rings...
Me: Thanks...it's a nice song. I always like that band.
SJI: I know...it's for you.
Me: LOL Can you still sing it like you used to?
SJI: I can sing it for you...I'm always singing it for you.
Me: Because you know I like it...
SJI: Because I mean it.
Me: You sing it...because that's what's friends are for!
SJI: Yeah...LOL Are you blushing?
Me: No...I'm singing.
Though it always feels good to know that after all, we are still good friends...there are just moments that you turn me nuts!

TMI Tuesday #119
1. What was your favorite book as a kid?
I have always loved The Wizard of OZ...have read it hundred times!
2. If you were stranded on that proverbial desert island (again!), what book or books (up to 5) would you want to have with you?
Mostly would beDavid Morell's book...and some other favorites...can I bring my mini-library?! LOL
(1) The Fraternity of the Stone
(2) Brotherhood of the Rose
(3) Memoirs of a Geisha
(4) The Good Earth
(5) A Brief History of Time - Yes, I'm a fan of Stephen Hawking
3. What was the first "naughty" book you read and in what way was it naughty?
Ha! I was high school then, and it was few days before the semestral break...so I was scanning the library shelves randomly to find some good cooks for me to read...then I saw one, The Blind Date, at first I thought it was written by a Russian, but then Jerzy Kosinski is Polish I think. Honestly, Ican't really recall the story, all I know was it was something like "obscene" to be read by a 15 year old then...It was the first time I read about tieing people in bed and all those "crazy things" that people can/ would do in bed...LOL
I just googled the book, and I think I want to read it again.
4. If you were to publish your autobiography today, what would be the title?
Mariposa's Tales
5. Would you rather look at nude pictures/pornography or read erotic fiction and why?
Read. In always love to read...and In like it when I'm in control...I can't control pictures...but I can control my mind...
Bonus (as in optional):
Do you know the whereabouts today of the first person with whom you had sex?
Hahaha, I just had coffee with him...he drove me to work today! ;)

My 15 Things
I grab this from the lovely Abbersnail of Bright Yellow World.
This is a list of 15 things you haven't told to people but have been meaning to...yes, each is addressed to a different person.
I find this exercise cathartic...and maybe you can try this!
Here are the things I've been meaning to tell to some people...
1. Thanks for having me!
2. Thank you for being there with me through think and thin. I'm now beginning to understand you.
3. Thank you for loving me...though you rarely said it to me, I don't mind, because I feel it everyday!
4. I have been thinking you are never ready to go through lifetime responsibilities yet...you seem to be doing fine already. Keep it up! I'm proud of you.
5. You are such a great mentor...you help me become who I am. Thank you for helping me realize that contentment is finding success in the things I already have.
6. You are one person who can make me laugh no matter what the circumstances are and I can forgive you anything because of that!
7. Now I'm not sure anymore how real you are but your existence in any way helps me get by...and I wouldn't have managed to be here without you. Thank you!
8. You are one person who can understand me by a mere look at me, with you I simply don't have to explain myself. I miss you so much and it pains me that we are oceans away...
9. You are a living proof that stupidity can sometimes cure my craziness.
10. If this makes me a bitch, so be it, but I do hope that one day bad karma will bite you in the ass...HARD!
11. One of my greatest fear is that you break my statistics in forgiveness...because I think you are one person I can't forgive and I fear so much that on the day you die, I might have to wear all RED in rejoice.
12. I trusted you...respected you...despite all the mess that I see you do everyday. Working with you is such a blessing, for I may not have the clearest idea on who I want to be, but at least I know I will do anything in my power so I don't end up being like you.
13. You have no idea how satisfied I am to see you go through the humiliation, unfairness and injustice that you made me endure with you a year ago. May you live a long interesting life...to understand what "retribution" means.
14. There was a time I really thought I was head over heels with my hate for you...but now, I can't remember that feeling anymore. You simply don't exist!
15. I can’t believe that we are still friends after all...
Sway With Me
My week is starting so right...
I was so early...at around 4AM, my head was already somewhere...tried putting myself back to sleep...after an hour, I gave...got up and was at my computer.
So many things to be grateful for...
...restful sleep
...no more migraine
...oranges in the morning
...my favorite Vienna sausage
It's such a beautiful day, the weather is so cozy...work is still 12 hours away...so what will Mariposa do for the meantime?
Then, I found this old post - You're My Everything
Ah...time to dance!
So, will you join me please? Shall we dance?
Please....sway with me!

Cebu Celebrates Sinulog!
As most of you know, I'm from the beautiful island Cebu, Philippines. And though the place has a so much to share...so rich in culture, history, etc. and I still have yet to write about it.
One reason, could be because when I started this blog, it was mainly to be a venue of my rantings and whinings...and though I still get to do that at times, I want to believe this site has evoloved to something so great and it has become so much part of me...this is where I connect to different wonderful people from different places in the world.
So, today, I will try to connect to give a glimpse of Cebu...I'm not sure if I can give any justice to it, and I'm trying anyway...
I will start with something that is so Cebu...and that is Sinulog!
Sinulog -the grandest, the most- awaited and lavishly celebrated festival in the country has just begun!
The Sinulog is an annual festival held every third Sunday of January in Cebu City, Philippines. It is a festival in honor of Sr. Sto. Niño or the Holy Child Jesus. In concept it is like a Mardi Gras. Orignally, it started as a mere street dancing but has evolved into a big event participated by people all over the world!
Sinulog 2008 is under way and as they say, if you're not in Cebu City, you’re missing an explosion of colors, dances and Sto. Niño devotion! A week long celebration, Sinulog 2008 will culminate with a grand parade and street dance this January 20. For the full list of activities, you may check the Sinulog 2008 Festival website.
I promise to expand on this post on Sunday, hopefully with pictures, so you get to see the festivity as it happens...and celebrate it with me!
Pit Senyor! (this is how we cheer/ greet each other during the festival...)
To Be Born in August...
Your Birth date: August 20 |
You are a virtual roller coaster of emotions, and most people enjoy the ride. Your mood tends to set the tone of the room, and when you're happy, this is a good thing. When you get in a dark mood, watch out - it's very hard to get you out of it. It's sometimes hard for you to cheer up, and your gloom can be contagious. Your strength: Your warm heart Your weakness: Trouble controlling your emotions Your power color: Black Your power symbol: Musical note Your power month: February |
