I really LOVE Angelina Jolie's role as Lisa Rowe in the movie Girl, Interrupted and in as much as I wanted to give this award to her, I just can't turn away from Sally Field's mother role at Steel Magnolias. Her role in the movie reminds me of Mom and all her interactions with her daughter and all she did for her is just so like me and my Mom. So I chose her in honor of my Mom and all mothers who love their children and do so many sacrifices for them.

Best Animated Feature award goes to --

Kung Fu Panda 

Though I'm not really big on animation, I did enjoy this movie much and thanks to IT Guy for convincing me to watch it. We ended up owning a copy and we've watch this several times already!

I LOVE Star Wars, all of it and everything about it! It rules the house...LOL

I still have some other awards in line but gezz, I'm running out of breath already, I'd rather start my rounds and see what others have.

Magnetic Jewelry

I did mention here several times how I heart jewelry right? Well guess what I have a new found! A very cool, chic and stylish magnetic jewelry. To say I am excited about this fascinating discovery is an understatement...as this is something new to me and can be a very good addition to my collection!

So while looking around, I found a really nice piece to add to my collection, a Hematite Magnetic Necklace and it's not that pricey you know! There are also some really nice set of necklace and a bracelet and I really fall in love with them.

These books are my recent read...though some I've read them many times already. These books are scattered all over my bedroom...sometimes in my bed, bedside table, computer table or just any place where I happen to sit! You can see how varied my readings are...LOL

Extravagant Bags Everyone!

Mariposa has passion for just so many things...and one of them are BAGS!

So today, allow me to flood with some too much information on bags...and well, if you have nothing to do you find this post worthwhile to read.

Let me start with a random discussion of some known brands...the order of the items does not necessarily according to popularity and price as I insert some creation in between prices range because they are from the same line.

I am also sure I missed so many other wonderful creations out there...these are just brands which I am familiar of.

I'd say this would be an awesome gift for my Mom! Oh no, not that I find this style 'classic' but because my Mom would love this more. I don't really care much for gold shade...while she is used to it. This is also spacious enough for her...though I have to admit most of the time she travels light than I do. But I have to say, I love the color of this one!

Now...I have also my fave from this line, the Gucci Joy Boston Bag. Not as pricey but I love the white/black flower embroidery.

I think it's the most eye catching Gucci creations I've laid eyes on! Glad they combined silver and gold to detail the black button or it would have been a turn off for me! As bizarre as it sounds somehow this mishmash of elements works for me.

I Am Waging War

...against TERMITES!

I am fond of collecting anything! Did I mention it here that I clingy to old my old stuff? With that said...there was a time I can proudly say I still have my elementary books and test papers! Yup..yup, I am that kind. My brother used to kid me that my stuff occupied almost half of the house...of course that is an exaggeration...it's not true...not really half...maybe one third. LOL

Two weeks ago...I was looking for some books. That is really me...one day I remember about a book...then I suddenly want it in my hand...and I want it in my hand!

I also know that for the 3 times we have moved...I have lost good collection of books. And I also know that I can't afford to lose any more books.

So I was about to dismantle my room and the entire house when Mom reminded me of the time when I asked them to move some of my old books to the stock room. Arrgghh! I hate going there...BUT what I heard next was more dreadful.

Mom added...well I moved them out of the stock room weeks ago because some were eaten by termites. And she said she told me about it??!

I did not know!!!

She tried to get a list of which books were damaged and lost so we can replace them...but some were just impossible to recognize.

Here are some of the remains...

Horrific!

I have lost so many books due to termites...and just because we did not take any precautionary. I found a site which has good information on termites and I'd like to share here some of the tips I found on how to protect our home from termites.

1. Keep moisture away! When I was doing the garden late last year I remember making the area near the stock room damp.

2. Get rid of wood debris. Hmmm...we had plenty of this late last year too because we were working on some parts of the house and garden.

3. Check your house for cracks.

4. Wood structures near your house should not touch the ground. Now this can be a problem because I am planning of having more lattice and trellis in the garden! But it did say something like, "You need about half a foot free space between the ground and any wood." so I can comply with that.

5. Use woods that are termite-resistant. Actually we are! Also we are having all woods in the perimeter treated for termites.

6. Get professional help! Now we will have the house inspected regularly - at least once a year. We used to have this in our old home since that place is infested with termites...and I guess we just have to do it here from now on. Though when we moved here we had everything checked and seems we never had to worry about termites then.

Diamonds Are Forever...

Diamonds are women's best friends...maybe not true to all but I still have to meet a woman who does not appreciate diamonds!

In one of my Friday Haiku when I announced here that I Said YES, I was wearing the diamond ring which IT Guy gifted me for our engagement. I was not expecting it to be that big...well I was not expecting anything at all!

Now this is kind of funny because honestly, I have several diamond rings already. Some were gifts from my parents...some from friends and most of them my gift to myself...if you get what I mean. I can only imagine how hard it was for the IT Guy to shop for a ring since he knows I am into jewelry...and despite my experience with it I'd say it is always a challenge to shopping for diamonds!

Today a friend of mine asked me if I can help him get an engagement for his gf. Now I'm sure he is not alone in this world, and in as much as I'd love to ask the IT Guy to share how he was able to get an excellent ring...I'd rather not! LOL

Online shopping is not just about convenient...it is also getting more options at more reasonable prices so I told my friends to check diamond rings online. In fact there are online stores which allows you to build your own engagement ring making you choose from the type of diamonds according to your budget to the type of setting according to the style which you think would fit to the personality of your fiancee to the packaging! Delivery is taken cared of and hassle free...plus, you get them at a very reasonable prices!

These online store don't just sell engagement rings, but all sort of diamond jewelry! You may want to try creating your own earrings...rings...pendants and what have you! Just an amazing and easy way to add to your collection!

My Love For Shoes

...is a love that knows no bound!

Call this a confession of a shoe addict if you will...but for me it is just as simple yet as necessary as breathing! Ha!

Mariposa's weakness aside from butterflies is SHOES! Yes, you read it right, SHOES..footwear, sandals...boots...high heels...call it whatever!

I think for years now I have spent so much for shoes that if I am to sum up the receipts, I'm guessing it would be more than enough to pay as down payment for cars! And I mean modest cars...not the BMW or Mercedes Benz okay? ;)

I just can't help it, I keep buying shoes and I don't get to wear them all! I get to buy at least a pair every week...or make that every time I go to the mall. That is on top of the scheduled shoe shopping that I do on occasions and seasons. No wonder I get to accumulate this much of shoes! To be honest I have not counted them all so I really do not have a clear number plus I tend to toss them out too soon sometimes!

I have posted some of my shoes here yet I can't stop myself from posting them again. So here is some of my Manolo Blahnik shoe collection...no, Sex and the City has nothing to do with it, I love them already even before I started watching it and well, I've only watched the movie anyway!

These are my formal corporate Manolo Blahnik shoes...which I rarely wear if at all lately.

Yes I have a thing for high heels. I have been on high heels since I was 16, I was first year college then. Anything below 3 inches is not high heels for me! There was even a time I can't seem to walk on a flat shoes...so I wear elevated flip flops! So crazy I am! Though lately I admit I have mellowed on it and just wear flat to mid-heels at work. Just trying to preserve my legs, heels and soles! LOL

Funny that a pair of really nice shoes make us feel good in our heads - at the extreme opposite end of our bodies.

Glitters...

Hello folks!

Yes, it's Monday...do we say thank goodness it's Monday?

So many reasons to love Monday...and let me count the ways!

My love for pearls...yes, like my friends always associate it with me! LOL

I love pearl accessory, they're classic, elegant, feminine and it's good to be minimalist, right?



The, my love for butterflies...

This is for a hair pin...I got this in one of my travel to Europe. I rarely use this though, it always makes my hair overdressed! LOL

But I love this!



Here are a mix of my pearls and butterfly necklaces and pendants and earrings collection. They may look familiar to some of you as I have showed this in one of our Fun Mondays when we featured our collections!

The one to the left of the red pendant is butterfly pendant on top of a heart. Both the butterfly and the heart has diamond studs (little ones!).



This one is a personal favorite of mine! the pendant is attached to the chain and you just need to slide it to adjust the length, something like that! I had this made when I was in Italy. I always wear this with my black turtle neck blouse.



So, this is me wearing the necklace! This was taken years ago, when I was working with a Software Development Company...

Please excuse my grumpy look, this is how Mariposa looks after being up for 48 hours! And you may discount the smile...I always smile...even when I'm pissed! LOL



This is another butterfly necklace and earrings! It's a set...I wear this for special occasions...

The ring is not part of the set, but it means a lot to me as it's a gift from an old friend when I was still in college.



And what I can't leave the house without?!

These rings!!!

That butterfly ring from my friend...a snake ring...the tribal ring in my thumb...and the one on my left hand is a star and moon ring!

And while some people may frown at my hands, I don't care...I love it!



I have some other jewelry...the ones that makes the IT Guy shift from a bf role to bodyguard role when I'm wearing them, but I can't find my camera right now. I think I left it at IT Guy's car yesterday...so I hope you excuse me for my cheat today as all this photos has been blogged already...

Last year was a memorable year as it caused quite a damaged to my collection, I lost pair 2 pairs of earrings while at the mall!!!

But one thing I learn about buying jewelry, never get something that you can't afford to lose!

Last week, I did a quick review on Quantum of Solace and promise to make another one for Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. I did watch it Saturday evening with IT Guy and it was fun...fun...FUN!

The opening of the movie was a bitter sweet cute scene, with Alex being away from his Dad and calling his Dad while he was floating at the sea!

Then the fun began...starting with their air adventure! What a flight it was...

Then comes Alex reunion with the his family...

Ah, I want this only to be a quick review...so let me just say we had fun. IT Guy was laughing the whole time...obviously he loves it! I on the other hand...well, I had fun, but I'm not just as passionate about it as I am with James Bond and other action movies...I guess because I can relate more of guns than animal species?! (Yeah, you can laugh but I mean it!)

And what prompted me to post this song? Well, this was played in the cab on the way home while I was from the bank this morning...and it get stuck in my head!
