Quest for Something Quaint

PhotoHunt: QUAINT

For whatever reason, this is the photo the came to my mind when I saw this week's theme. I just grab this from an old post, Spending My Time. This is a very old photo of mine. And somehow it allows me to travel back time and become the old me again. Exactly what I need right now.

You may want to see other's quest for something quaint at PhotoHunt!

Happy weekend guys!

Dreams

All people dream, but not equally.
Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their mind,
Wake in the morning to find that it was vanity.

But the dreamers of the day are dangerous people,
For they dream their dreams with open eyes,
And make them come true.

Life Lived Over The Edge

PhotoHunt: OVER

Too much of something for someone, I always am.
Too caring, too demanding.
Too loud, too soft.
Too edgy...
But I will never round my edges...I might lose my edge!

I wish you all an OVERly awesome weekend!

The Best Meditation: DayDream

PhotoHunt: DAYDREAM

“I live in two unique worlds, traveling between both with just the opening or closing of my eyes.”
~ Richelle E. Goodrich

Today I woke up still in my dreams. And I want to believe I am blogging from my dream. I am so tired I need to sleep a hundred years...but instead I am in the office. I've been here for 2 hours already...just taking my mind off the corporate world to come here.

Here it's nice...it's comforting...I seem to have all the time in the world.
Here, I feel young...forever young. I guess I have to make sure I come here more often then...like I used to.

This photo was taken about two years ago. One of those precious weekend where I get to drive to the beach and relax. I miss those days. I'm just too busy right now to go anywhere. So for now, I just have to close me eyes and wander. ;)

I hope you all enjoy your weekend. Happy daydreaming to you all!
Happy PhotoHunt too!

When I am Numb

PhotoHunt: NUMB

Sometimes I just feel like everything is falling apart and my insides are numb.

And when I am numb...it's a great feeling!

I had to manipulate the color so many times for fear that it will be a too much photo...but then I wanted to post something dramatic today. I haven't done this for awhile...I beg for your indulgence.

I Was At The Top

PhotoHunt: BACKWARDS

I know there are people who are afraid of heights...I am lucky I'm not. Last April, the client SVP visite the Center and one morning after a long night shift...we decided to climb the roof of the building to see how we did all the civil works.

Now the boss wanted me to climb...which I have no problem with, except that I had to remove my high heels. Good thing I was wearing jeans!

So this is the Site Director of one of the call centers in the Philippines Mariposa...backwards...after the climb! It was fun!

I have another photo which could have been a nice one for this week's theme as well but I thought I might need to post something that might let me explain the things that kept me busy for months now. I'm very excited what others have. Let's go visit PhotoHunt!

13 Interesting Facts About Lipstick

It's Hump Day everyone...I hope you are all having fun. The week is almost over and I am hoping this week will kinder to me than the previous ones!

I have made myself a promise...to post something here whatever happens. Today I am staying home. Ideally I should be resting that is why I'm home. But then I'm bringing work with me so there goes not getting the rest my body needs again.

I am doing Thursday 13 today and I couldn't find any feel good topic which I can deeply relate to except lipstick. At least not with the current state of mind and body I am right now.

So here goes Thursday 13 Interesting Facts About Lipsticks

And please I beg for all your indulgence if I am making myself the model today! ;)

When A Woman's Will

PhotoHunt:

...is as strong as the man's
who wants to govern her,
HALF her strength must be concealment.
George Eliot

Today is a very productive Saturday for me. I was able to rest well last night and I spent half my day at the site and everything seems to be going well. (For those who are new here, we're starting up a call center and it will open this July!). I am just a little worried about the boss because he seems to be getting more tired each day, if only he finds time to rest and like really rest. But then tomorrow I will be having my meeting with him...so there goes his chance to rest. Anyway...my photo hunt for this week is an old photo...this is something usual for Mariposa, like I do this half my lifetime! LOL

Please visit PhotoHunt's HQ to see more HALF!

I wish you all a relaxing weekend!

Uñas Azules

Ha! I painted my nails blue. My friends couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe it. One day they'll get over it as I'll get over it. (My diary entry for June 15, 1996)

Though this photo is quite recent looking at it brought me back the times when I was still getting the feel of painting nails. LOL

Happy Wordless Wednesday everyone...

Competing

...without Comparing?

NOTE: I've combined my Wordful Wednesday and Word Filled Wednesday. This photo was taken from my last vacation with the IT Guy!

Competition is just everywhere! Though people most often viewed me as somebody competitive, truth is many times in my life I've tried to run away from it. And I always feel. So instead I tried to befriend it...get to know more about it.

Competition is not that bad after all! Whether in sports...business...or life, it can be a good thing. It moves us to work harder...refine our skills and knowledge, and to more importantly it motivates ourselves to perform as well as we possibly can. So this is one aspect where competition is beneficial.

However conflicts lurk in the shadow of competition. This conflict which can be dangerous becomes so real as competition yields to comparison...resulting in envy and jealousy.

I can just think of many times when healthy competition deteriorated into unhealthy comparison causing relationships. Just sad.

All this time I am always reminding myself to stay within the line of healthy competition as it is something unavoidable. So just how do we do that? Is it really possible to enjoy the benefits of competition while avoiding the pitfalls of comparison? I'd like to quote sections from the book What Makes A Winner by R. J. Tamasy on this topic.

1. ALWAYS STRIVE TO BE AT PEACE.

When we compete fairly and equitably, we can be at peace with ourselves - and with others. Our victories need not come at the expense of others. But when we compete to win "at any cost," unhealthy conflict becomes inevitable. If how we compare with others stands paramount in our minds, competition becomes ugly. "A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones" (Proverbs 14:30).

2. TO MAINTAIN STRONG RELATIONSHIPS, SOMETIMES LESS IS MORE.

Harmony and cooperation in the workplace - as well as in the home and with friends - are prized commodities, but they cannot exist in an environment of harsh competition and comparison. If we value our relationships, sometimes it might be worth settling for a bit less than we would prefer. "Better a meal of vegetables where there is love than a fattened calf with hatred" (Proverbs 15:17).

3. THE COST OF COMPARISON IS CONFLICT.

There is something very appealing about being able to go to work without the dread of facing conflict, or being able to go to sleep unhindered by anger and unnecessary anxieties. One way to achieve this is by competing fairly and without unfair comparison. "Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife" (Proverbs 17:1).

4. JEALOUSY FROM COMPARISON RESULTS IN DEVASTATION.

Jealousy can have destructive impact. There may be times when we feel unfairly treated, or that others have received inequitable advantages. Our perceptions may be true, but festering jealousy can be like an uncontrolled cancer Eventually it kills - relationships, hopes, reputations, even careers. "Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?" (Proverbs 27:4)

I am so happy that I can finally move to a new workplace soon! I've been meaning to make an official announcement on this...but I'm still waiting for my contract so 'til then nothing is final. I've been praying for this opportunity to come and I am so hopeful not to drop the ball. I hope I get to have the contract in my hand soon... :)
