The Sacred Stack: A Mariposa's Guide to Wearing Rings with Intention

Let me confess something upfront: I am, increasingly, a minimalist in progress. I'm shedding excess in my closet, editing my life down to what actually serves me, moving toward that quieter, more intentional version of myself I can feel just up ahead. But rings? Rings are the one place I haven't simplified — and honestly, I don't think I ever will. If you know me, you know this about me instantly: I am rarely, rarely caught wearing just one ring. It's always been a stack, a story, a small constellation wrapped around my fingers since high school.

And here's the thing — this was never hoarding. Everything I keep, I keep with intention. That's been true of me long before I had the language to explain it, and it's proven itself right at every turn. So even as I move toward a more minimal life, my rings remain the exception, because each one earned its place. Looking back now — as a yoga and meditation teacher, a Reiki Master Healer, someone who has spent years falling deeper in love with feng shui, and someone who also carries the weight of an executive role in a world that rarely slows down — I think my teenage self already knew something my adult self was still learning to articulate. That instinct to layer rings wasn't clutter. It was grounding. It was creative expression before I had language for chakras or yin-yang polarity. It was, in hindsight, energy work in its earliest, most unconscious form.

There's a stillness meditation has taught me that I now bring into everything, including how I dress myself each morning. Choosing which rings to wear has quietly become its own small meditation — a moment of checking in before I check out the door, before I step into back-to-back meetings and decisions that don't pause for anyone. So today, I want to unpack the why behind the rings — blending feng shui, chakra wisdom, a touch of Wiccan lore, and the lens I now carry as a meditation teacher, a healer, and yes, someone navigating boardrooms too. Consider this part guide, part love letter to the one piece of jewelry I refuse to minimalize.

Right Hand, Left Hand — And Why It Actually Matters

The energetic foundation

  • In most energy-work traditions, the right hand is the "giving" or projecting hand — active, outward, yang
  • The left hand is the "receiving" hand — intuitive, absorptive, yin
  • This traces back to that beautiful bit of body wisdom where our right side connects to the logical, action-oriented left brain, and our left side connects to the intuitive, receptive right brain

A personal note on this — because I'm actually left-handed

  • Here's a little piece of my own story: I'm left-handed, but up until high school I was fully ambidextrous when it came to writing, and to this day, I still do most of my chores with either hand without thinking twice
  • Because of that, I've always felt genuinely at home abiding by the traditional teaching — right as giving, left as receiving — rather than flipping it to match my dominant hand
  • In my personal practice, I consider my right hand my dominant one energetically, even if my left hand technically leads the pen. It's less about which hand does the writing and more about which hand I've trained myself, through years of meditation and energy work, to associate with projecting versus receiving
  • I share this because I don't think dominant hand has to dictate your system. Sit with your own hands, notice what feels true in your own body, and let that guide you — that's the meditative approach, and it's served me well, whether I'm on my mat or walking into a high-stakes meeting

Feng Shui — My First Love in This Practice

Right hand (Yang/Action)

  • Governs career, ambition, assertiveness — this is your "get it done" hand
  • I lean toward gold pieces here, letting that solar, active energy do its thing when I need to show up boldly — in front of a yoga class, mid-meditation session, in a healing room, or leading a room full of people waiting on a decision only I can make

Left hand (Yin/Receiving)

  • Governs wealth, relationships, luck flowing toward you
  • This is where I keep my citrine, my little abundance charms — silver-set, moon-blessed, quietly working while I teach, heal, and yes, build a career

Finger by Finger — The Chakra Map I Live By

Thumb — Willpower & Ego

  • Right hand: outward assertion, decisiveness, the "I've got this" energy
  • Left hand: quiet internal discipline, the resolve nobody sees but you feel — this is the one I press gently during breathwork, an anchor point I return students to often, and honestly, the one I quietly touch under a conference table when a meeting gets tense

Index finger (Jupiter) — Confidence & Leadership

  • Right hand: visible leadership, stepping into the room and owning it
  • Left hand: the confidence still brewing inside, not yet spoken aloud — I wore this a lot before I got certified, if I'm honest, and still do on days when even executives need reminding that confidence is allowed to be quiet before it's loud

Middle finger (Saturn) — Balance, Responsibility & Karmic Lessons

  • Right hand: this is the one to watch — Saturn's discipline here tends to show up as friction, hardship, and karmic tests, because the right hand actively engages that heavier energy rather than absorbing it gently
  • Left hand: the exact same Saturn energy, but received instead of confronted, tends to soften into grounded stability and quiet abundance — patience rewarded rather than lessons hard-won
  • Of every finger, this is the one with the sharpest left-right contrast, and honestly, it's the one I'm most intentional about — and the one I notice most in stillness, when there's nothing left to distract me from what it's telling me, corporate deadlines included

Ring finger (Sun/Apollo) — Love & Creativity

  • Right hand: love and creativity expressed outward — the art you share, the affection you initiate
  • Left hand: love received, held, nurtured — which is exactly why Western tradition (and Wiccan handfasting) places commitment rings here

Pinky finger (Mercury) — Communication & Intuition

  • Right hand: active persuasion, teaching, negotiating — this is basically my classroom hand, and truthfully, my boardroom hand too
  • Left hand: receptive listening, intuitive downloads — this is my healing-session hand, and the one I unconsciously rest during silent meditation, as if intuition needs less noise to speak clearly

A Whisper of Wiccan Wisdom

  • Dominant hand for spellwork: many practitioners wear ritual rings — moonstone, silver, pentacle-set — on their casting hand, treating it as an extension of the wand or athame
  • Ring finger for handfasting: the left ring finger carries that same heart-bound commitment energy Western marriage traditions also honor
  • Thumb rings for grounding: a simple metal band worn before ritual, purely to anchor before the energy work begins — not unlike settling into your seat before a meditation, letting the weight of the ring remind the body it's safe to be still, even amid a demanding schedule
  • Metal matters: silver for lunar and Goddess energy, copper for Venus and love workings, and iron best avoided in protective or fae-related practices

The Mariposa Method — How I Actually Wear Mine

If you've made it this far, you might be wondering how I personally stack it all together. Here's my go-to:

  • Right hand: action, teaching energy, assertive intentions — but I stay mindful of that middle finger, since I've felt its "challenge" energy show up in real time, especially in weeks that demand more of me than usual
  • Left hand: love, abundance, receiving — my middle finger here is almost always doing quiet, grounding work
  • Index: leadership rings, worn depending on which side of confidence I'm cultivating that season
  • Ring finger: always something meaningful, always something heart-centered
  • Pinky: my talkative finger, my intuitive finger, switching sides depending on whether I'm teaching, healing, or presenting that day
  • Thumb: the anchor, the one ring that rarely comes off, regardless of hand — often the first thing I notice when I close my eyes to meditate, a small physical reminder to come back to center no matter what the day has asked of me

At the end of the day, no system here is gospel — feng shui, chakra theory, and Wiccan folklore all evolved separately and don't always agree with each other. But what I've learned, both as a teacher and a healer navigating a demanding professional world, is that intention outweighs instruction every time. As I keep simplifying everything else around me, my rings remain untouched by the purge — proof, honestly, that minimalism was never about owning less for its own sake. It's about keeping only what's true. And these rings? They've always been true, holding steady through every version of me — the teacher, the healer, and yes, the executive too.

So darling, wear the whole stack if that's what calls to you. Sit with it, breathe into it, and let it teach you something the way it's taught me. Just wear it with meaning.
