Sick of Being Sick: The Energy Behind Your Fatigue

As a meditation and yoga teacher, and a Reiki Master Healer, I often meet people who don’t just feel tired—they feel chronically low in energy. They describe it like this: “I can’t shake it. I’m constantly run-down. I get sick easily- viral, bacterial, or that vague ‘I feel sick’ feeling that never fully lifts.”

And yes—rest, nutrition, sleep hygiene, and medical care matter. They always will.

But what I also notice (and what I want to share with you today) is that there’s a deeper layer that often goes unnoticed: the way stress, frustration, resentment, and emotional overwhelm can subtly drain vitality—sometimes long before the body shows clear symptoms. In this blog, I’m going to talk about energy cleansing and chakra balancing through the lens of my personal work and healing practice, while still honoring science, medicine, and evidence-based health.

First: Your fatigue may have both biology and “energy” components

When someone is chronically tired or repeatedly sick, it can be explained by many physical factors: sleep debt, hormonal shifts, nutritional gaps, chronic inflammation, stress-related changes in immune function, microbiome imbalances, or underlying conditions that deserve a proper diagnosis.

From a scientific perspective, there’s strong evidence that the nervous system and stress response affect immunity. When you’re stuck in a long stress cycle, your body can stay in a heightened “alarm” state. Over time, that can affect energy levels and how well you fight off illness.

In my world of yoga, meditation, and Reiki, we’d describe this as a system that’s not only physically taxed, but also energetically “unbalanced.” The result may feel like:

  • low vitality
  • heaviness or low mood
  • feeling “cloudy” or ungrounded
  • a sense of emotional irritation that builds without release
  • subtle resistance in the body’s ability to recover

Even if the root cause is primarily biological, energy work can still be a supportive layer—helping you come back into balance so your body can do what it’s meant to do: regenerate.

Energy Cleansing isn’t about “rejecting medicine”—it’s about supporting recovery

I want to be very clear: energy cleansing does not replace healthcare. If you’re experiencing persistent fatigue, recurring infections, weight changes, fevers, unusual symptoms, or anything concerning, please see a qualified medical professional.

What energy cleansing can do—especially when practiced alongside healthy habits and medical support—is address the energetic patterns that often accompany stress and emotional buildup.

When we work with energy, we may focus on things like:

  • reducing energetic “congestion”
  • supporting emotional release
  • helping the body feel safer (which can shift the nervous system)
  • restoring balance across chakra centers
  • encouraging a return of vitality through breath, movement, and intention

Think of it as complementary care—like how meditation and yoga can be supportive for stress management even though they aren’t a diagnosis.

How frustration and resentment can drain your life force

One of the most common themes I see—whether someone is aware of it or not—is that irritation builds quietly.

At first, it’s small:

  • a repeated argument you don’t fully resolve
  • feelings you swallow to keep the peace
  • being “fine” on the outside while you’re exhausted inside
  • holding resentment toward yourself, someone else, or life itself

Then the body adapts. Your nervous system learns to carry it.

From my perspective as a Reiki healer and yoga teacher, unresolved frustration and resentment can contribute to a kind of energetic stiffness—like emotions turning into static. Over time, this can show up as “low immunity energy,” where your system feels less resilient.

And it makes sense even psychologically and physiologically. Resentment isn’t just a feeling—it’s an ongoing internal holding pattern. It can keep your body “on alert,” which may affect recovery, digestion, sleep quality, and stress hormones.

Energy cleansing becomes a way to interrupt that cycle.

Not by forcing positivity, or bypassing emotions—rather by creating space for release, truth, and reset.

Chakra imbalance: how it can reflect emotional and energetic stress

In chakra philosophy, each chakra corresponds to themes of safety, expression, boundaries, vulnerability, love, and personal power. When something repeatedly hurts us—emotionally or spiritually—certain chakras can become blocked, overactive, or underactive.

Here’s how this often presents in daily life:

  • you may feel disconnected (emotionally numb or “checked out”)
  • you might feel stuck in worry or dread
  • your throat may feel tight (suppressed expression)
  • boundaries may feel impossible to maintain
  • your heart may feel guarded or hard to open
  • your confidence and grounding may fade

From the yoga lens, the body stores patterns. From the Reiki lens, energy can become “held” or congested. From the mindfulness lens, attention and breath can help you return to presence.

When chakras come into balance, people often report:

  • improved mood and emotional clarity
  • a lighter body feeling
  • better sleep or easier settling
  • less “doom fatigue” or mental heaviness
  • a sense of emotional relief
  • renewed motivation and vitality

Again—this is not replacing medical treatment. It’s a different form of support for resilience and recovery.

What energy cleansing can look like (without magical thinking)

To me, energy cleansing is practical. It’s not about denying reality; it’s about shifting your inner environment—through breath, awareness, intention, and healing touch (when appropriate).

Here are the main areas energy cleansing often supports:

  • Nervous system calming: breath and body - based practices help your system come down from threat mode.
  • Emotional release: frustration and resentment can loosen when you create a safe container to feel and let go.
  • Energetic “reset”: Reiki and energy clearing aim to reduce stagnation and promote flow.
  • Body awareness: yoga helps you detect tension patterns earlier.
  • Mind-body coherence: meditation reconnects attention, emotion, and bodily signals.

Sometimes, people don’t realize how tense their emotional world is until they feel it “move.”

A gentle reminder: getting sick easily can be more than “low energy”

If you’re frequently ill, it’s worth considering the basics and the deeper layers:

  • Are you sleeping enough, and is your sleep restorative?
  • Are you under chronic stress?
  • Are you eating in a way that supports your body?
  • Are you moving your body (even gently) regularly?
  • Do you have unresolved emotional burdens that you keep carrying?
  • Do you have any nutrient deficiencies or medical conditions that need attention?

Science and medicine help us see what’s going on in the body. Energy work helps us understand what’s happening in the whole system—especially the emotional and energetic patterns that influence how you tolerate stress and recover.

What I’ll share next on this blog series

In my next blog post, I’ll share simple, practical ways to begin cleansing and rebalancing at home—something you can do even on low-energy days. I’ll include gentle methods aligned with meditation, yoga, and Reiki-informed clearing, plus how to know when you need to slow down and when you may need extra support from a healthcare professional.

If you’d like, tell me:

  • Do you feel more fatigued, more anxious, or more heavy/low mood?
  • Do you notice this after particular people/situations?
  • Are your “sick feelings” mostly physical (body aches, congestion) or mostly energetic/emotional (numbness, irritability, dread)?

And I can tailor the next post’s cleansing practices to what you’re actually experiencing.

The Sacred Stack: A Mariposa's Guide to Wearing Rings with Intention

Let me confess something upfront: I am, increasingly, a minimalist in progress. I'm shedding excess in my closet, editing my life down to what actually serves me, moving toward that quieter, more intentional version of myself I can feel just up ahead. But rings? Rings are the one place I haven't simplified — and honestly, I don't think I ever will. If you know me, you know this about me instantly: I am rarely, rarely caught wearing just one ring. It's always been a stack, a story, a small constellation wrapped around my fingers since high school.

And here's the thing — this was never hoarding. Everything I keep, I keep with intention. That's been true of me long before I had the language to explain it, and it's proven itself right at every turn. So even as I move toward a more minimal life, my rings remain the exception, because each one earned its place. Looking back now — as a yoga and meditation teacher, a Reiki Master Healer, someone who has spent years falling deeper in love with feng shui, and someone who also carries the weight of an executive role in a world that rarely slows down — I think my teenage self already knew something my adult self was still learning to articulate. That instinct to layer rings wasn't clutter. It was grounding. It was creative expression before I had language for chakras or yin-yang polarity. It was, in hindsight, energy work in its earliest, most unconscious form.

There's a stillness meditation has taught me that I now bring into everything, including how I dress myself each morning. Choosing which rings to wear has quietly become its own small meditation — a moment of checking in before I check out the door, before I step into back-to-back meetings and decisions that don't pause for anyone. So today, I want to unpack the why behind the rings — blending feng shui, chakra wisdom, a touch of Wiccan lore, and the lens I now carry as a meditation teacher, a healer, and yes, someone navigating boardrooms too. Consider this part guide, part love letter to the one piece of jewelry I refuse to minimalize.

Right Hand, Left Hand — And Why It Actually Matters

The energetic foundation

  • In most energy-work traditions, the right hand is the "giving" or projecting hand — active, outward, yang
  • The left hand is the "receiving" hand — intuitive, absorptive, yin
  • This traces back to that beautiful bit of body wisdom where our right side connects to the logical, action-oriented left brain, and our left side connects to the intuitive, receptive right brain

A personal note on this — because I'm actually left-handed

  • Here's a little piece of my own story: I'm left-handed, but up until high school I was fully ambidextrous when it came to writing, and to this day, I still do most of my chores with either hand without thinking twice
  • Because of that, I've always felt genuinely at home abiding by the traditional teaching — right as giving, left as receiving — rather than flipping it to match my dominant hand
  • In my personal practice, I consider my right hand my dominant one energetically, even if my left hand technically leads the pen. It's less about which hand does the writing and more about which hand I've trained myself, through years of meditation and energy work, to associate with projecting versus receiving
  • I share this because I don't think dominant hand has to dictate your system. Sit with your own hands, notice what feels true in your own body, and let that guide you — that's the meditative approach, and it's served me well, whether I'm on my mat or walking into a high-stakes meeting

Feng Shui — My First Love in This Practice

Right hand (Yang/Action)

  • Governs career, ambition, assertiveness — this is your "get it done" hand
  • I lean toward gold pieces here, letting that solar, active energy do its thing when I need to show up boldly — in front of a yoga class, mid-meditation session, in a healing room, or leading a room full of people waiting on a decision only I can make

Left hand (Yin/Receiving)

  • Governs wealth, relationships, luck flowing toward you
  • This is where I keep my citrine, my little abundance charms — silver-set, moon-blessed, quietly working while I teach, heal, and yes, build a career

Finger by Finger — The Chakra Map I Live By

Thumb — Willpower & Ego

  • Right hand: outward assertion, decisiveness, the "I've got this" energy
  • Left hand: quiet internal discipline, the resolve nobody sees but you feel — this is the one I press gently during breathwork, an anchor point I return students to often, and honestly, the one I quietly touch under a conference table when a meeting gets tense

Index finger (Jupiter) — Confidence & Leadership

  • Right hand: visible leadership, stepping into the room and owning it
  • Left hand: the confidence still brewing inside, not yet spoken aloud — I wore this a lot before I got certified, if I'm honest, and still do on days when even executives need reminding that confidence is allowed to be quiet before it's loud

Middle finger (Saturn) — Balance, Responsibility & Karmic Lessons

  • Right hand: this is the one to watch — Saturn's discipline here tends to show up as friction, hardship, and karmic tests, because the right hand actively engages that heavier energy rather than absorbing it gently
  • Left hand: the exact same Saturn energy, but received instead of confronted, tends to soften into grounded stability and quiet abundance — patience rewarded rather than lessons hard-won
  • Of every finger, this is the one with the sharpest left-right contrast, and honestly, it's the one I'm most intentional about — and the one I notice most in stillness, when there's nothing left to distract me from what it's telling me, corporate deadlines included

Ring finger (Sun/Apollo) — Love & Creativity

  • Right hand: love and creativity expressed outward — the art you share, the affection you initiate
  • Left hand: love received, held, nurtured — which is exactly why Western tradition (and Wiccan handfasting) places commitment rings here

Pinky finger (Mercury) — Communication & Intuition

  • Right hand: active persuasion, teaching, negotiating — this is basically my classroom hand, and truthfully, my boardroom hand too
  • Left hand: receptive listening, intuitive downloads — this is my healing-session hand, and the one I unconsciously rest during silent meditation, as if intuition needs less noise to speak clearly

A Whisper of Wiccan Wisdom

  • Dominant hand for spellwork: many practitioners wear ritual rings — moonstone, silver, pentacle-set — on their casting hand, treating it as an extension of the wand or athame
  • Ring finger for handfasting: the left ring finger carries that same heart-bound commitment energy Western marriage traditions also honor
  • Thumb rings for grounding: a simple metal band worn before ritual, purely to anchor before the energy work begins — not unlike settling into your seat before a meditation, letting the weight of the ring remind the body it's safe to be still, even amid a demanding schedule
  • Metal matters: silver for lunar and Goddess energy, copper for Venus and love workings, and iron best avoided in protective or fae-related practices

The Mariposa Method — How I Actually Wear Mine

If you've made it this far, you might be wondering how I personally stack it all together. Here's my go-to:

  • Right hand: action, teaching energy, assertive intentions — but I stay mindful of that middle finger, since I've felt its "challenge" energy show up in real time, especially in weeks that demand more of me than usual
  • Left hand: love, abundance, receiving — my middle finger here is almost always doing quiet, grounding work
  • Index: leadership rings, worn depending on which side of confidence I'm cultivating that season
  • Ring finger: always something meaningful, always something heart-centered
  • Pinky: my talkative finger, my intuitive finger, switching sides depending on whether I'm teaching, healing, or presenting that day
  • Thumb: the anchor, the one ring that rarely comes off, regardless of hand — often the first thing I notice when I close my eyes to meditate, a small physical reminder to come back to center no matter what the day has asked of me

At the end of the day, no system here is gospel — feng shui, chakra theory, and Wiccan folklore all evolved separately and don't always agree with each other. But what I've learned, both as a teacher and a healer navigating a demanding professional world, is that intention outweighs instruction every time. As I keep simplifying everything else around me, my rings remain untouched by the purge — proof, honestly, that minimalism was never about owning less for its own sake. It's about keeping only what's true. And these rings? They've always been true, holding steady through every version of me — the teacher, the healer, and yes, the executive too.

So darling, wear the whole stack if that's what calls to you. Sit with it, breathe into it, and let it teach you something the way it's taught me. Just wear it with meaning.

Right People, Wrong Time — Or Is It Just Wrong Timing?

A reflection on fate, soulmates, soul contracts, and the lessons we were always meant to learn.

There's a particular kind of heartache that doesn't come from falling for the wrong person. It comes from falling for what feels like exactly the right person — and watching the world refuse to cooperate. The timing is off. The circumstances are impossible. The love is real, but the moment isn't ready.

And yet we ask ourselves — if they were truly right, how could the time ever be wrong?

Maybe the question itself is the lesson.

The Myth of "Wrong Time"

We throw the phrase around so easily. Right person, wrong time. But what does wrong time actually mean? It means one of you isn't ready. It means life is pulling in different directions. It means the version of you standing there isn't yet the version capable of holding that love properly.

So perhaps wrong time doesn't mean the universe made a mistake. Perhaps it means the universe made a plan.

Because if time is wrong, it isn't random. Time is a teacher. And every teacher shows up exactly when the lesson is due.

Fate: The Author You Can't Argue With

Fate is not a rigid script where every detail is pre-written. Think of it more like a river. The destination is set, but how you navigate the current — that part is yours. Fate draws certain people into your life with an almost magnetic precision. You meet someone in the most unlikely of circumstances, and something deep inside you recognizes them before your mind can explain why.

That recognition isn't coincidence. That's fate doing its job.

But fate is also honest in a way humans struggle to be. It doesn't promise that every meaningful connection will end in forever. Sometimes fate delivers someone to your door not to stay, but to wake you up — to shake loose something in you that needed to be moved.

Wrong time, in the language of fate, simply means: not yet complete. Not yet ready. Not yet whole enough to receive this.

Soulmates: The Beautiful Misunderstanding

We've romanticized soulmates into a single, perfect, eternal partner. Someone who completes us, stays with us, and never leaves. But that is perhaps the most limiting definition of one of the most expansive spiritual concepts.

A soulmate is a soul that resonates with yours at a frequency so deep, it bypasses logic entirely. And here's the truth that breaks hearts and builds them back stronger — you can have more than one. And not all of them are meant to stay.

Some soulmates arrive to love you. Some arrive to challenge you. Some arrive to leave you in exactly the right way, at exactly the right moment, so that the breaking of that connection forces you to finally become who you were supposed to be all along.

The person who felt like the right one at the wrong time? They may have been a soulmate perfectly fulfilling their role — not by staying, but by going, and leaving behind a version of you that the next chapter desperately needed.

Soul Contracts: Agreements Made Before You Were Born

This is where spirituality gets beautifully complex. The concept of soul contracts suggests that before this lifetime, our souls — in whatever form they exist between lives — made agreements with other souls. Agreements about who would show up in whose life, when, and why.

Not all contracts are love stories in the conventional sense.

Some contracts are written for comfort — to give you a safe place to land.
Some are written for disruption — to pull the rug out from under a life that had grown too comfortable.
Some are written for heartbreak — because heartbreak, as devastating as it is, often carries the most transformative lessons.

That person who came into your life and turned everything upside down before leaving just as suddenly? There's a possibility their soul agreed to do exactly that for yours. Not out of cruelty, but out of a kind of deep, pre-incarnate love — the willingness to play the difficult role so your soul could grow.

Wrong time, in the context of soul contracts, becomes almost a contradiction. Because if the contract was fulfilled, the timing was never wrong. It was precise.

Karma: The Classroom You Keep Returning To

Karma is widely misunderstood as punishment — what goes around, comes around, delivered as cosmic justice. But karma at its truest is simply this: unlearned lessons that follow you until you learn them.

When the same kind of person keeps entering your life, when the same kind of heartbreak repeats with different faces, when you find yourself standing in a familiar emotional place you swore you'd left behind — that is karma knocking. Not to punish you. To teach you.

The lessons we are meant to learn in this lifetime aren't random. They are deeply personal, carefully crafted by the accumulation of every life, every choice, every unresolved wound that came before this one. And people — especially the ones who feel like home but somehow never quite work out — are often the primary instruments of those lessons.

The right person at the wrong time might be teaching you:

That you are worthy of love even when love doesn't stay.
That your identity cannot depend on another person's choice to remain.
That loving deeply and losing fully does not make you broken — it makes you expanded.
That you have patterns rooted in fear, and love is merely the mirror that reveals them.
That some doors need to close completely before the right one can open.

When you learn the lesson, the karma completes. The pattern stops repeating. And suddenly, the timing in your life begins to shift.

So Does Wrong Time Make Everything Wrong?

No. Absolutely not.

Wrong time makes everything meaningful.

If love arrived only when everything was perfectly aligned, it would never teach us anything. It's precisely in the gap between right person and right time that the most profound work of the soul happens. That gap is where you discover who you are without them. Where you confront what you've been avoiding. Where you choose — sometimes painfully — to keep growing anyway.

The right person at the wrong time is not a tragedy. They are a gift wrapped in grief. A lesson dressed as a love story. A soul contract being honored in the most human, messy, beautiful way possible.

Closing Thoughts: Trust the Timing of Your Life

Fate is not careless. Soulmates are not mistakes. Soul contracts are not accidents. And karma does not loop endlessly without purpose.

Every person who walked into your life and walked back out again left fingerprints on your soul. They changed the shape of who you are. And that reshaping — however painful — was always moving you closer to the version of yourself capable of receiving the love, the peace, and the alignment that is genuinely meant for you.

So if you're carrying someone in your heart right now, someone who felt so right but arrived at what felt like the worst possible time — don't dismiss what you had as a mistake.

Trust that your soul knew what it was doing when it agreed to that meeting.

Trust that the lesson was worth the ache.

And trust that the right time, for the right things, is always becoming.

Some people are chapters. Some are catalysts. And some are mirrors. But none of them — not a single one — ever arrive without a reason.
