The rest can wait until morning.
Hey you. Yes, you, with the swirling thoughts and the racing heart.
I know what tonight feels like. A little anxious, a little excited, a little worried about things that haven't even happened yet. Your mind is running a full-blown committee meeting at an hour when the committee should be asleep. Someone's raised the agenda item about that thing you said three years ago. Someone else is drafting worst-case scenarios for next Tuesday. And somewhere in the back, a tiny voice is whispering, but what if it all works out beautifully?
All of it is true. All of it is you. A ball of mixed emotions is just proof that you care, that you're alive, that you're paying attention to your own life.
But here's the thing, my love.
The world will go on anyway.
The sun has a very reliable work ethic. It will rise tomorrow whether you've solved everything or not. The coffee will still be warm (or at least reheatable, no judgment). The problems will still be there in the morning, but so will you, and a rested you is a much better problem-solver than a midnight you running on fumes and fear.
Think about it: every worry you carry tonight is a bit like trying to push a boulder uphill in your pajamas. Nobody wins that battle. Nobody has ever solved a hard thing at 2 a.m. that couldn't be solved better at 9 a.m. with sunlight and a snack.
So let's make a deal, you and I.
Tonight, you get to feel it all. The nerves, the hope, the what-ifs, the butterflies. (Mariposas, if you will. 🦋) You don't have to push them away or fix them. Just acknowledge them, like old friends who stopped by unannounced.
Then you gently say:
"Thank you for visiting. I'll deal with you tomorrow."
And you let your heart rest.
Not because everything is figured out, but because you don't need to have it figured out tonight. Resting isn't giving up. It's refueling. It's trusting that future-you, the one with a clearer head and a fresher heart, will handle tomorrow's things just fine. They always do.
The world is big. Time is generous. And you are allowed to put it all down, just for a few hours.
So close your eyes. Take one slow breath. Let your shoulders drop an inch (you've been holding them up by your ears, haven't you? Haha).
Tonight, you rest. Tomorrow, you rise.
And the butterflies? They'll still be there in the morning, probably a little calmer, a little wiser, ready to fly with you.
Goodnight, you beautiful bundle of feelings. 🌙
The rest can wait until morning.
Written with love, for the version of me who needed to hear it. And maybe for you too.
