No Holds Barred

I got this from Heartsinsanfrancisco, who got it from Chani at Thailand Gal... I have been wanting to do and has been working on it since November, and finally here it is!

These are 35 questions which was from Vanity Fair, titles "Answer as though you are not afraid."

How I love the answers of the two great ladies I just mentioned, and my admiration for them is just astounding. Reading their answers made me reflect and so I am trying it myself here...

1. What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Happiness is when I have found peace with myself and the world and having something to do what I love to do, someone to love, and something to look forward to.

2. What is your greatest fear?

To become the person that society wants me to be rather than the person I wanted to be.

3. Which living person do you most admire?

Anybody who has a strong sense of compassion and forgiveness.

4. What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

My impatience and having to lie to people so as not to hurt them.

5. What is the trait you most deplore in others?

Greed.

6. What do you consider the most overrated virtue?

Conventionality and Compliance or make that Mediocrity

7. On what occasion do you lie?

I struggle everyday so as not to lie...what makes me lie is when I try to protect someone from being hurt. But then, I'm not sure if this is one instance when the intention weighs more than the outcome...for I know sooner or later the truth will come out and what difference will it make if the person gets hurt today, tomorrow, months from now? I feel like I was only prolonging the agony...

8. What do you dislike most about your appearance?

I love me! I wish I have better teeth though. (But I know I can still do something about it...and the fact that I don't maybe, I am not just so bothered about it!) Then I wish I have better/nicer legs and not restless at that. (Remember this post?) And finally, I wish I have bigger boobs! :D

9. What is your greatest regret?

I could have enjoyed more of my teens. I was too busy with what was seemingly REAL life issues then and I was too in a hurry to grow up. But, it is not a REGRET, just maybe something I could have done better.

10. What or who is the greatest love of your life?

My family and dear friends.

11. Which talent would you most like to have?

I want to be able to sing again!

12. What is your current state of mind?

I am hopeful. Hopeful for so many things...not just for myself but for so many people as well.

13. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

To learn to say No and to be kind to myself.

14. What do you consider your greatest achievement?

I have been a good daughter...was a public servant at a young age (which allowed me to help many out-of-school youth)...I'm able to do what I want to do.

15. If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?

I would like to be me again...armed with knowledge on how I can be of better service to others.

16. What is your most treasured possession?

A pair of ebony chopsticks given by an old friend.

(I was helping her organized a charity concert, that's how we met and became friends. She said, the chopstick is something that will remind me not to worry for I shall never go hungry because I have helped so many people by helping her with that event, and I will be blessed.

And true enough, it has brought me enormous blessings. So much that my family and friends would always say it is my lucky charm. But for me, it holds a special place in my heart because it reminds me to always share whatever blessings I have with others, big or small.

I know she valued them so much and yet, she gave them to me. It made me realize that acts of charity and generosity are most valuable when we share to people what we value most.

Money and other material things are the easiest thing to give. But sharing one's self, is a great challenge!)

17. What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Not being able to do what I want to do because of other people's opinion.

18. Where would you like to live?

I think it's more on with whom and for whom...

19. What is your most marked characteristic?

Determined and Compassionate (sometimes to a fault!)

20. Who are your favorite writers?

A lot and too many to mention...depends on the theme too.

21. Who is your favorite hero of fiction?

Jo in "Little Women, Scarlet in "Gone With the Wind", Sayuri in "Memoirs of a Geisha", Vianne Rocher in "Chocolat, Anne of "Anne of Green Gables", Anna Leonowens of "Anna and the King", Guido Orefice of "Life is Beautiful (Vita รจ bella, La)", and a lot more...I can't just remember them now.

22. Who are your heroes in real life?

Self-made people.

23. What is it that you most dislike?

Prejudice.

24. What is your motto?

Learn as if you were going to live forever. Live as if you were going to die tomorrow...

25. Favorite Journey?

That day when I woke up and realized I couldn't sing anymore. From that moment, to that day I have accepted to myself that there must be a greater meaning for what happened and resolved to find that meaning and stopped asking God why. (That was the best part of my journey so far, that whenever I am in my highs I looked and I am being humbled by that experience, and in my lows, and it gives me strength and faith to tell myself, "..this too, shall pass.")

26. What do you value most in your friends?

The time they spent with me.

27. Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

CRAP

28. Which historical figure do you most identify with?

Evita? LOL

29. What is your greatest extravagance?

Jewelry

30. If you could change one thing about your family, what would it be?

None. My family is not the most perfect one in the world, but I am not and will not change a thing about them.

I have always wanted to be a mother and a wife. That will be my favorite occupation.

32. What is the quality you most like in a woman?

Compassion

I want to know how to maximize all that I have to help others.

Those are some interesting questions, and some great answers! I loved the story about the chopsticks. I've always thought certain objects given with love just have a great...vibe about them.

My that was a big "assignment" and you executed it wonderfully! So many of your answers refelt the very warm and large heart you have--very nice.

I second your high placement of "compassion" in your life--it is one of the strongest expressions of true Love.

Thank you for sharing this with us--so many insights into YOU.
